  • Access to all Carroll computing accounts requires a password.
  • Your Pioneer Password is provided to you by ITS, usually during registration(students) or by HR (faculty and staff).
  • If you do not receive a password, please come to the ITS office and we can provide you with the information. You will need a picture ID before we can give you your password.

Shelf Life of Your Carroll Network Account

Your Carroll computing accounts will remain active as long as you are enrolled in classes, or have a faculty or staff appointment.  If you leave the University for a semester, your accounts will be removed and then re-created if you return.  Student accounts remain active for six months following graduation.

Rules for Constructing Strong Passwords

Carroll password must adhere to the guidelines:

  • It must be at least 8 characters long
  • It cannot have any spaces
  • It cannot contain any part of your name
  • It must contain at least three of the following:
    • A number (0-9)
    • A lower-case letter
    • An upper-case letter
    • A special character (such as $, ?, or #)

Some Guidelines for Good Passwords

  • In general, the longer the password, the more difficult it is for someone to figure out.
  • A password should not consist of dictionary words that have been changed in a systematic way, such as adding a single digit on the beginning or end or replacing all the O’s with zeroes. The "hackers" already know these tricks.
  • One way to choose a good password is to take parts of two words and join them together with a special character or symbol, such as "foot$paSs99".  Some examples of good passwords include:
    • ioy4This
    • 2foreT&95
    • mo!muNy$
