Student Health Insurance Information for 2016-2017

Your health and well-being are important to your academic success Carroll University. For this reason, the University sponsors two comprehensive health insurance plans available from Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corporation (WPS Insurance). The University-sponsored plans are available to any full or part-time student taking 6 credits or more enrolled and attending for the first 30 days of the semester. Information regarding the cost, coverage and enrollment for the plans can be found at http://www.wpsic.com/waicu (scroll down to find information for Carroll University). Purchase of a University-sponsored student health insurance plan is voluntary. Many insurance and/or HMO plans do not provide coverage outside of a particular area, and therefore, families should review coverage under other plans carefully. Students are solely responsible for the cost of their medical care.

Whether students are insured through one of the University sponsored plans or through their own health insurance, students are solely responsible for the cost of all health care needs. If you have questions about either enrolling or waiving student health insurance, please contact Vicky Alf at 262-524-7372 or valf@carrollu.edu.

Has your family’s health insurance changed because of the Affordable Care Act?

As you have no doubt heard, the Affordable Care Act’s deadline for all United States Citizens to carry ACA-qualified health insurance is January 1, 2014. For many families, employer provided health insurance options have changed this year. Some employers are narrowing networks, increasing deductibles, shifting more of the cost of healthcare to employees, and requiring spouses to be insured under their own employer plan, if eligible.

If you find that changes to your current employer’s plan have made insuring your student costly, you can sign your student up for the student insurance plan sponsored by Carroll University. Carroll participates in the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Student Health Insurance Program (WSHIP).  WSHIP provides students with many advantages – Carroll students are pooled with students from many other Wisconsin private non-profit colleges, allowing WSHIP to provide ACA-qualified insurance options with a broader network, more comprehensive coverage, and at a lower cost than most students would be able to obtain on their own.

Please note the plan is only available to full time students.
