Residential students are students that are currently enrolled students living in campus housing. Carroll University will provide a certified housing list to the Waukesha municipal clerk. The clerk or election officials can use the list to verify a student's proof of enrollment.

Wisconsin Resident

• If you have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or state ID card and have already registered to vote with your current residential address, you are all set.
• If you do not have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or state ID card, the Department of Transportation (DOT) will provide free ID cards for the purpose of voting if you will be at least 18 years of age on the date of the next election. (The regular fee is $28.) Please keep in mind that you will need to provide a birth certificate and other documents to receive a DOT-issued ID. Therefore, plan to start this process well in advance of Election Day. Commuter students are currently enrolled students who do not reside in Carroll University campus housing. 

Wisconsin Residents

Non Wisconsin Resident

• You will need to obtain a Carroll University Voter ID card at the Pioneer Card located at the Campus Center Information Desk. Please bring your current Pioneer Card when obtaining your Carroll University Voter ID card. Visit the Pioneer Card Office for more information.
• During the month of October, you will receive a Verification of Enrollment letter from the Registrar's Office. You must present this document to your polling location on election day to qualify to vote. If you have a local address on file with the Registrar's Office, the document will be mailed to that address. Otherwise, your Verification of Enrollment letter will be mailed to your permanent address on file. 
• If you do not receive a Verification of Enrollment letter, you may request one from the Registrar's Office. This document needs to be requested Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm in Voorhees Hall by Friday, October 31st.

To vote in Wisconsin, you need to do two things:

Am I registered to vote in Wisconsin?

You need to be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and you cannot have lost your right to vote for some reason (currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction). If you are not sure if you are registered, you can check with the State of Wisconsin Elections Commission at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/RegisterToVote.

Am I able to vote in Waukesha? I just moved here...

In Wisconsin, you must reside in an election ward for at least 10 consecutive days and plan to stay there for the foreseeable future.. This means that if you moved into the residence halls on August 31, 2018, you are eligible to vote in Waukesha starting September 10, 2018. In some cases, your primary residence might not be in Waukesha, WI (for example, if you commute to school from another county). In this case, you need to register and cast your ballot in your home district.

How do I get a free Wisconsin State ID card?

The G.A.B. advises anyone who does not have a state ID card to take advantage of the opportunity to get one for free. The Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles has a process to allow people to obtain a free State ID card for voting purposes, even if the person does not have a birth certificate.

The process can take time, especially for people born outside of Wisconsin, so it makes sense to get started early and have yours ready for the next election.
